About PensionPlainly
PensionPlainly helps Canadians see what they would have to live on in retirement. The income timeline puts a workplace pension, savings, CPP or QPP and OAS together, year by year, and compares two choices side by side. The guides explain the terms and decisions behind them in plain language. It is free to use and needs no account.
Independent
PensionPlainly is not connected to any pension plan, employer, government, bank or adviser. It shows options side by side and never recommends a choice or a financial product. The disclaimer sets out what its estimates can and can't tell you.
How the guides are written
- Every rule and amount comes from the government or pension plan page that publishes it, with a link and the date it was checked.
- The examples are worked out with the same calculations as the income timeline.
- Each choice is explained with what it gains and what it costs, without ranking them.
- Every guide shows the date it was last updated.
How the numbers are checked
- Government rules and pension plans' rules are kept as data, each with its source and the date it was read.
- The calculations are tested against worked examples and checked against separate recalculations.
- The rules and amounts are checked every quarter, when OAS amounts change. CPP, QPP and tax tables change each January.
How it works lists every source and how the income timeline uses it.
