An educational tool, not advice

PensionPlainly is an educational tool. It shows estimates to help you understand your options. It does not give financial, tax, legal or pension advice, and it does not recommend a choice or a product. Consider speaking with a qualified adviser before you make a decision about your retirement.

Estimates, not promises

Every result is an estimate. It depends on the numbers you enter and on assumptions about the future, such as inflation, that may turn out differently. The assumptions are listed with your results. Your actual income may be higher or lower than what is shown.

Not your plan's official estimate

PensionPlainly is not connected to any pension plan, employer or government. It does not have your plan's records and it simplifies plan rules. Your plan's own estimate is the authority on your pension. Confirm your numbers with your plan before you decide. For CPP and OAS, your own figures from Service Canada take priority over ours, and for QPP, those from Retraite Québec.

What it does not cover

  • The exact income tax you will pay. Amounts shown after tax use a rough estimate for one person at this year's rates. It leaves out tax savings for couples, such as pension income splitting, and some smaller items, such as Quebec's prescription drug insurance premium.
  • Benefits that depend on your income, such as the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
  • A spouse's or partner's income.
  • Survivor options and the form of pension you choose.
  • Commuted values and transfers out of a plan.

Accuracy

We work to keep the rules and figures correct and up to date, and we list our sources. Even so, the site may contain errors or be out of date, and it is provided as is, without any guarantee. If you find a mistake, please tell us.
